Android OS is one of the most amazing innovation or development of this decade. Powering multitude devices and at the same time the cost is also remain very affordable. Here I will provide some important points regarding how to select a best and at the same time cheap mobile devices powered by Android OS.
OS Versions: It's better to be up to date. So always select the latest version to have better user experience. The latest version of the OS will have multiple enhancements as well as critical fix for the flaws found in the previous versions. Currently Android v2.3 is best suited for the mobile devices. But if we compare with the v2.2 there is not much improvement. So a device with running Android 2.2(Froyo) will be more than enough for the mobile device.
Hardware: It is always to have better hardware to experience excellent usability. The basic android device must run on 600Mhz processor speed to run properly without any hiccups. There are many manufactures producing low cost chip such as VIA, RockChip, etc. But it should be better to go for better one such as Cortex or Qualcomm processors.
Screen Resolution: Another important factor for the Android device that it supports full touch screen. So it's better to have wide or larger working space. Screen size > 3 inches its great choice for the mobile device. It will provide enough space in the screen to touch the icons, setting with the finger tip. Less than 3 inch screen will be the most difficult until you have got a very small finger.
Touch Type: There are two basic touch types available in the market. Capacitive touch screen and resistive touch screen. Resistive is an old technology where it depends on the area of the screen where it being pressed to respond. While capacitive touch screen doesn't require any device such as stylus to respond. Simple press from the human finger tip allows it to respond to the command. So it's better to go for a mobile device which supports capacitive touch screen.
Other Factors: Apart from the above basic features there are some other features are also welcome. But it's not mandatory. And having this in the phone certainly improve the performance, user experience. The mobile device should have at least 256MB RAM for the operation. The device memory should be expandable using memory card such as microSD card. Also it should powered by good mAh rated battery for longer user.
With the above features into the device, one can have the good android phone and also able to use it to its fullest capacity.
